I have always been interested in health and wellness, teaching physical education and leading classes at the local gym. Reality set in some time after 50 with a visit to the orthopedic doctor. The scope of my activities had to be modified…half marathons instead of full marathons, 25 mile bike rides instead of 50 miles, more walking than running.
When I retired from corporate life at 70, I needed to set new goals. One of those goals was to help older adults increase the quality of their lives. Many of my friends had difficulty walking up steps or standing up after sitting on the floor, and that concerned me. I had been a certified personal trainer through American Council on Exercise for ten years, so when I retired I added Silver Sneakers™ certification and became a Certified Senior Fitness Specialist through the National Institute of Health Science. Having more time to write, I combined my love for fitness and writing to inspire older adults to live life to the fullest…no matter what their birth certificate says!
